Whitechapel - 2014 - Our Endless War

我不期待《Our Endless War》會給我什麼，但這張作品真是棒透了，在一堆殘暴的deathcore樂團當中，Whitechapel同時注重兇猛與整體氣氛，而非一味的殺戮或是無盡的breakdown來填充剩餘的樂句。這樣的讓人聯想到也走向progressive的Chelsea Grin最近一張作品。但這是否意味著death掛的走向極端都會導入jazz來緩和？

Breathe Atlantis - 2014 - Shorelines

我對Breathe Atlantis有些模糊印象，一堆什麼Atlantis還是什麼Breath的，反正一定很一般。但《Shorelines》著實加深我對他們的印象，他們決不是一般的post-hardcore團而已。原本以為是2011 - 2013那一陣子的場景，卻時有一份的味道，但刷上強烈的art/indie的音調，加上複雜的math/experimental，有種奇特的復古衝撞感。

帶著前衛感的Structures，可以說在Sumerian Records中的定位很有意思。Sumerian當中不是一掛的前衛Veil of Maya、Animals as Leaders、The Faceless、Periphery，就是一票的scene，例如：Miss Fortune、City in the Sea、I See Stars、Dayshell。
因此某種程度，Structures可以說是代表Sumerian曲風的一團，你看的到hardcore脈絡下來的metal，也能聽到那個漂亮死人不償命的progressive metal。但要說progressive metalcore那麼多團，為什麼就獨獨Structures可以擔當這個角色？（謎：因為只有他們在Sumerian呀XD）在Structures能感受到Vildhjarta的氛圍，同時又能捕捉到Dayshell的影子。同樣性質叫類似的是I, the Breather，他們就比較偏metalcore場景，可以代表hardcore派的樂團，但套在Veil of Maya這一類的團就很說不過去。
沒有期望會帶來意外的驚喜，有期待才會有失望，Atlas這張《Uncharted》這是這個現象的最好例證。這一陣子聽了些沒什麼期待的團，像是Breathe Atlantis，聽過都覺得意外的還不賴嘛！了。我對Atlas在過去有個印象，是個好印象，結果這張一般、一般到不行！完全失望！
